Description
Clear, colourless sterile solution.
Indications
Intramuscular anaesthesia in cats, birds, echidnas, marsupials, reptiles and zoofelidae.
Anaesthesia in horses in conjunction with xylazine.
Actions
Ketamine induces rapid cataleptic dissociative anaesthesia. Its pharmacological action is characterised by the selective interruption of association pathways in the central nervous system. It is a rapid acting anaesthetic producing analgesia, normal pharyngeal–laryngeal reflexes, mild cardiac stimulation and normal respiratory depression. It increases the release of dopamine and noradrenaline, which are excitatory, and increases the release of serotonin, which is depressant. Protective reflexes are retained, such as coughing, swallowing, pedal and corneal reflexes. The eyes normally remain open with the pupils dilated.
Contraindications
Cats with renal or hepatic insufficiency.
Withholding Periods

Adverse Reactions
