Specific reversing agent for medetomidine sedation
COMPOSITION
Contains: Atipamezole hydrochloride 5 mg/mL
ACTIONS
Atipamezole is rapidly absorbed and distributed from the periphery to the central nervous system where it competitively inhibits α-2-adrenergic receptors. Net pharmacologic effects are to reduce sedation, transient decrease in systolic blood pressure followed by transient increase in arterial blood pressure, increase heart and respiratory rates, and reduce the analgesic effects of α-2-adrenergic agonists. Atipamezole is not selective for subtypes of alpha2-adrenoceptors.
Unlike many other alpha2 -adrenoceptor antagonists, it has negligible affinity for 5-HT1A and I2 binding sites.
INDICATIONS
A selective α-2-adrenergic receptor antagonist capable of reversing the sedative and analgesic effects of medetomidine hydrochloride in dogs and cats.
PRESENTATION
10 mL multidose vial
STORAGE
Store below 25°C (Air Conditioning). Do not freeze. After withdrawal of the first dose, use remaining product within 3 months after opening.
RESTRAINTS
NOT TO BE USED in food producing animals
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Atipamezole has not been tested in sufficient numbers of pregnant dogs or cats and therefore, its use cannot be recommended in pregnancy.
PRECAUTIONS:
Due to the potent pharmacological activity of atipamezole, skin contact with Reversamed should be avoided. Wipe off excessive spillage on skin of animals.
